2SER turns 30!

2SER's 30th Birthday!

We're playing the Lansdowne Hotel this coming Friday night the 23rd October 2009 for 2SER's 30th Birthday Celebtrations.

Playing on the night will be Peabody, us/SLS, Line Drawings and Atticus. Bands start at 9pm & entry is free but y'know, here's your opportunity to donate a little something to 2SER, or even sign up to become a 2SER Member.

Also those of you who may not have been around the traps in Sydney in the mid-late 90s (when we started up), you probably missed Atticus when they were playing around Sydney & being heard on 2SER etc - so make sure you get there early to see the first Atticus show in ages 'cos they're excellent.

For more info on shows, go to the shows page.

Mixing, cont'd...

Wayne has gone overseas for a bit so we'll continue mixing with him again when he gets back again, as well as tracking even more tunes. We're also sort of flirting with a couple of label-type people at the moment too, which is holding up our proposed re-release of 'Saturdays' and 'Invisible' - so we'll hopefully have more info on this soon (the wheels turn slowly in this place don't they?).

Blast from the (recent) past

You may have heard that Lou Barlow's excellent new album 'Goodnight Unknown' is out now - well in case you haven't seen them before, here's footage of us playing impromptu as Lou's backup band for a couple of Sebadoh songs at the Annandale Hotel when he was doing a solo sideshow during the Dinosaur Jr tour here in 2006:

[previous update from June 20th:]

We're playing the Oxford Arts Factory in Darlinghurst this coming Wednesday Night the 7th October 2009 with The Preytells (Perth), Richard In Your Mind and The Chevaliers. Kind of short nitice, but the Astral Kaliedescope pulled out at the last minute so we stepped in.

Preytells Oct 7 Oxford Arts Factory

We've never played the Oxford Arts Factory before so we're kinda keen. The last time we played that end of town was a few doors down at Spectrum with Magic Dirt, ohh...2 or 3 years ago.

I guess by now you would have probably heard of the news that the Hopetoun Hotel has closed as of the Monday just gone of this week, and it goes without saying it's bummed everyone out. We never really saw it coming - although when you think about the size of the place and the crowds it's able to pull, the fact it's been able to survive for as long as it has is a wonder in itself. We've played the Hoey more times than we have at probably every other venue put together, and we're eternally grateful to the Hoey staff for having us all these years, for putting up with our oftentimes hot & cold performances - and for turning the other way when we've been louder than we probably should have been. We have a lot of great memories of playing there (a lot of the pics above are of us playing there) and surely in time it'll reopen again one day soon, stronger than ever. In the meantime eternal thanks & all the best to the staff & management there who have kept it kicking along for the love of the bands for as long as they have - we certainly owe you at least a drink or 50.

We were to have played the Hoey again on Oct 23 for the 2SER Birthday Celebrations - but that's now been reshuffled to the Lansdowne - check out the shows page for more info.

Hopetoun Jun 21 flyer

Playing times for the Sunday June 21 show at the Hopetoun are up now on the shows page.

The Saturday June 27 show at the East Brunswick Club in Melbourne is still going ahead, however the Dave C solo show the following day at the Empress (Sunday June 28) has been cancelled.

We were hoping to have shirts & hoodies available for this weekend's Hopetoun show but instead these will be ready in time for the trip away to Melbourne instead. Looking at the weather forecast for next week, it looks like we'll need 'em down there!

[previous update from June 2nd:]

The show on the weekend was great - it was a tight little stage but it was really nice to play the Annandale again and make some noise. Thanks again to Screamfeeder for having us, and thanks also to the guys from Further & Richard In Your Mind for lending us gear & stuff. It was a massive night for everyone, and I hadn't seen the Annnandale that full of people in ages.

I still can't believe it's June already, but we have a show coming up at the end of this month at the Hopetoun Hotel, and then the week after that we're heading down to Melbourne for one or two shows. Hope you can join us on Sunday June 21 at what's probably our favourite place to play, and is probably also the place where we've played more shows than anywhere else (is that really cool or just..really tragic?). Anyway, if you click on the graphic just above you can download a hi-res A3 size PDF of the flyer for the show if you're into that sort of thing.

The first of our new tunes 'fears' is being mastered this week and we're hoping to have this out & about really soon.

[previous updates:]

We're playing some more shows, this coming Saturday at the Annandale Hotel should be great, and a few weeks after this one we'll be headlining a show at the Hoey. We're looking forward to a bit of a road trip soon too - Melbourne at the end of June is going to be cool and we're in the process of teeing up a few other things as well, hoping to confirm shows in Canberra, Newcastle, Brisbane and a few other places. See the shows page for details.

We mixed a song with Anthony The last week at The Vault, and there are more to follow. We're just sorting out stuff with labels/distro etc at the moment. The first single from our new album is being mastered this week & there's a video to go with it, so we'll keep you posted with how it all goes.

As you'd be aware we've never really been into selling shirts & stuff. Not 'cos we have any strong reasons against it - we've just never gotten around to it. Well - believe it or not, our very own shirts & hoodies are finally getting made. We're finalising some designs this week & we'll soon have some cool screenprints & even embroidered things to show off to everyone.

We've agreed to a licensing deal with Modular/Universal to re-release our 2001 album Saturdays. It took ages because after Universal bought 50% nobodoy was sure who owned what part of the Modular label. It will be available on the iTunes store worldwide very soon, and we're also planning to remaster it & repress it for those who are keen. We've been getting a bunch of emails asking about this album over the last few months so we'll keep you posted with what happens.

Also to all the people who have been asking for access to masters for remixing songs - sorry for the massive delays but it's honestly all on its way this week!

Anyway - see you at a show soon - come over & say hello!

Hi there. This website's been hopelessly out of date for ages. Its about a year since we last told you what the heck was going on! No doubt 12 months ago we were saying 'new music coming soon' etc - well it is. in the next few weeks we're mixing the first of a bunch of songs we're getting out there. It's all ready to roll!

We played with Line Drawings, Golden Mean & Bruno Brayovic at the Bald Faced Stag last Friday night - and that was so great. Our first show in over a year (hence the lack of updates on the site here) and it was cool to get back out there again Thanks again to Pat for the invitation. It was cool to catch up with a bunch of people we hadn't seen in ages too. Also Gary from Canberra - wow, thanks for waiting around to catch the show!

Speaking of Canberra - Screamfeeder have invited us to play with them at the Annandale soon but also they've asked us to join them along with Midget on a tour to Melbourne and I'm thinking we should try to get a Canberra show on the way down. We'll keep you posted if this happens - last time we played Canberra was yeeeears ago, at The Rock Ape on a Friday night with Singlecoil (RIP). All our Canberra connections (hi Pete Dowd!) - except for Gary - have since moved on down to Melbourne.

Not sure how many of you know this but Beef has finally decided to call it a day & we're back to a three-piece again for the time being. So far so good - and it's funny - we actually started as a 3-piece (with Golden Mean's Rohan Geddes on drums) and Beef joined a matter of weeks later. That was back in, ohh, 1997 (yiiikes!). Anyway, again we'll keep you posted if any of this changes.

Whatever happens we're ready to release music, and the plan is to keep a steady stream of music coming out from now on. There's a stack of music sitting right here on this computer waiting to hit the uhh...shelves I guess.

Catch you again soon.

(...and now for some slightly old news from last year)

We're playing a couple of co-headline shows with the frighteningly good Peabody in the next week or so - check out the Shows page for details. We were hoping to do the trifecta and play all 3 shows that were planned but sadly we had to pull out of the Woollongong one. My fault - I smashed the Mazda 121 last year en route to a BBK support and with work, wife, 3yr old daughter & being down to only 1 car means I can only play Fri/Sat gigs for the time being. Hoping we can get to Wollongong soon though.

Playing with Further the other night was cool - they were sooo good. I hadn't seen them in about 3 years, when they played at Mingara Club at Tumbi Umbi with Gelbison & Something For Kate. All the best to Leo Further with the (almost) new bub and Andy Futher who's about to get married. Hope we can play together again soon.

Beef is still in France - as far as we know. The last we heard from him, he said his chalet in the alps was totally snowed in, with big blizzards coming through etc. He also sustained a nasty gash to the head & shoulders in a freak snowboarding accident - one of those ones where the last thing he remembers was being at the top of a mountain looking down at a run of moguls - next thing he knew he was waking up in the emergency ward of the local hospital with massive head injuries after apparently collecting a tree on the way down. All things considered this is probably no great drama - afterall this is the same guy who severed several toes when he slipped over mowing a lawn in bare feet one time. I hope we hear from Beef again soon - we miss him heaps.

In the meantime it's been a busy few weeks in the Sunset camp. Lots of recording - lots of ditching old recordings and starting new ones - lots of ditching the new ones and then going back to the old demos. It's a pretty good time that's happening at the moment. Back & forth, lots of new things...20 or 30 songs going at once. Just that vibe where anything's possible, where there are no rules, and things are flowing really well. It's just a matter of deciding what to choose to release now. Won't be long - hoping to have something ready to present in the next couple of months.
